AAIP Calculator: WEOI points and Alberta worker stream requirements
Alberta selects through a single 100-point grid, the WEOI (Worker Expression of Interest), and each stream has its own requirements. Choose the stream, answer the fields and see your score, what is met and what is missing.
This calculator is an educational estimate built by Imigrando. It is not from the Government of Alberta or Canada and does not replace a review by a regulated professional.
- The 100-point WEOI grid applies to the 5 worker streams: Alberta Opportunity, Rural Renewal, Tourism and Hospitality, Dedicated Health Care Pathway and Alberta Express Entry. There is no minimum score to submit the WEOI: the cutoff of each draw decides who gets invited.
- Having the points does not guarantee an invitation. Alberta selects by stream, and in some paths also by sector or community. Recent cutoffs: Alberta Opportunity 58, Rural Renewal 51, Dedicated Health Care 60, Accelerated Tech 60 and Tourism and Hospitality 71 to 73.
- The WEOI costs $135 since 07/04/2026, is valid for 12 months and can be edited once every 15 days. The nomination application costs $1,500. The nomination is valid for 6 months and gives 600 CRS points under the federal Express Entry rule.
- The Rural Renewal Stream changed on 01/01/2026: applicants already in Canada need a valid work permit, the TEER match between the position and the experience became stricter, and the community endorsement letter is valid for 1 year.
- 2026 quota: 6,603 nominations, of which 3,562 for the Alberta Opportunity Stream. By 25/08/2026 Alberta had issued 4,560. Physicians and francophone candidates have extra federal allocations outside the quota.

What AAIP requires from the job offer, the employer and you in each stream, how the 100 WEOI points are distributed and how the process works.
Job offer and employer
In the 5 worker streams the Alberta job offer is at the center of the application. Only the Express Entry Priority Sectors accept a candidate without an offer.
- The offer must be full-time, with at least 30 hours per week and a minimum duration of 12 months. Part-time, casual and seasonal work do not count, even if they add up to 30 hours.
- The wage must be equal to or higher than the LMIA wage (if there is one) or the lowest published starting wage for the occupation in Alberta. Since 25/02/2026 a WEOI with a job offer must state the wage and hours.
- The employer must be registered in Canada, have a place of operation in Alberta and at least 2 full fiscal years of continuous operation in the province.
- Minimum size: annual revenue of $400,000 and 3 full-time employees in Alberta. Employers below that can still support a limited number of nominees per year of operation (2 years: 1 nominee, 3 years: 2, +1 per year, rule from 18/03/2024). Public bodies and Indigenous organizations are exempt.
- Ineligible job offers: work through an independent contractor or a temporary staffing agency, a residential workplace or one without commercial zoning, remote work from outside Alberta, and a candidate listed as a director, partner or agent of the company in the CORES registry.
- Alberta Opportunity Stream: the candidate must be working in Alberta for the employer named in the offer, with a valid work permit. TEER 0 to 5 occupations, except the 34 on the ineligible occupations list (for example 00010, 41100, 51111, 43100, 65229 and 85101).
- Rural Renewal Stream: a position in a designated community (outside Calgary and Edmonton), with an endorsement letter from the community economic development office, valid for 1 year. Candidates outside Alberta can only use TEER 0 to 3 positions.
- Tourism and Hospitality Stream: only 18 occupations (from 60030 restaurant managers to 65320 event staff). The employer must have WCB coverage in the sector and be a member of a tourism industry association (or a Travel Alberta Experience Provider). Work permit based on an LMIA.
- Dedicated Health Care Pathway: 9 occupations (physicians, registered and practical nurses, nurse practitioners, physician assistants, occupational therapists, physiotherapists, clinical social workers and psychologists), with a health employer covered by WCB. Fee-for-service arrangements are accepted only for health professionals.
- Alberta Express Entry: Accelerated Tech requires an occupation from the technology list and an employer with a technology NAICS code. Law Enforcement requires an employer that is a member of the Alberta Association of Chiefs of Police in NOC 40040, 41310 or 42100. Priority Sectors: construction, agriculture, aviation, manufacturing and health care.
Candidate requirements by stream
Language, education, experience and status change from stream to stream. The calculator applies the right set for the stream you choose.
- Language: Alberta Opportunity and Rural Renewal require CLB or NCLC 5 in all 4 abilities for TEER 0 to 3 and CLB 4 for TEER 4 and 5 (NOC 33102, nursing aide, CLB 7). Tourism and Hospitality: CLB 4. Dedicated Health Care outside Express Entry: CLB 5. Test taken less than 2 years ago: CELPIP, IELTS General, PTE Core, TEF or TCF Canada.
- Education: high school completed to the Canadian standard, with an ECA for a foreign credential (WES, ICAS, CES, IQAS, ICES or the profession's regulatory body). A Canadian credential and an Alberta trade certificate waive the ECA.
- Alberta Opportunity Stream, experience: 12 months full-time in the current occupation in Alberta within the last 18 months, or 24 months in total (Canada or abroad) within the last 30 months. Applicants with a PGWP from a public Alberta institution need 6 months in Alberta within the last 18. Internships and co-ops do not count, except a paid co-op from an Alberta program.
- Alberta Opportunity Stream, status: a valid work permit that authorizes work for the employer named in the offer (LMIA-based, LMIA-exempt, open or PGWP). Maintained status, visitor status and study permits do not qualify. PGWP only from a public Alberta institution.
- Rural Renewal Stream: 12 months full-time in an eligible occupation within the last 18 months, with a TEER compatible with the position (a TEER 0 position accepts TEER 0 and 1 experience, TEER 1 accepts 0 to 2, TEER 2 and 3 accept 1 to 4, TEER 4 accepts 2 to 5, TEER 5 only the same occupation). Graduates of a 2-year program in the community with a PGWP are exempt.
- Rural Renewal Stream, funds: only for applicants outside Canada or in Canada without a job. LICO table by community size: for example, 1 person needs $8,922 (community under 1,000 residents), $10,151 (1,000 to 30,000) or $11,093 (30,000 to 99,999).
- Tourism and Hospitality Stream: 6 consecutive months (or 780 hours) full-time and paid with the same employer named in the offer, living and working in Alberta.
- Dedicated Health Care Pathway: proof that you meet the minimum requirements of the profession's regulatory body in Alberta. Through Express Entry: an active profile, a CRS of at least 300 and eligibility for the CEC, FSWP or FSTP. Outside Express Entry: a valid work permit or maintained status if you already work in Alberta, and CLB 5.
- Alberta Express Entry (Accelerated Tech, Law Enforcement and Priority Sectors): an active Express Entry profile, a CRS of at least 300, a primary occupation on the profile matching the position or the sector, and not on the Alberta Opportunity Stream's ineligible occupations list.
- Barriers in every stream: a pending refugee claim, a removal order or appeal, an active AAIP nomination in another stream, a finding of misrepresentation, remote work from outside Alberta, and a language test older than 2 years.
100-point WEOI grid
A single grid for all 5 streams: 69 points for human capital and 31 for economic factors. Each draw has its own cutoff.
- Education (up to 12): doctorate 12, master's 10, bachelor's 7, trade certificate 7, post-secondary diploma or certificate 4, high school or less 0.
- Where you studied (up to 10): post-secondary credential completed in Alberta 10, in another Canadian province 6, outside Canada 0.
- Language (up to 10), by the lowest ability: CLB 6 or more 10, NCLC 6 or more 8, CLB 5 8, NCLC 5 5, CLB 4 5, NCLC 4 3. A second official language with CLB or NCLC 4 in all 4 abilities: +3.
- Total experience in the occupation (up to 11): 12 months or more 11, 6 to 11 months 7, less than 6 months 3.
- Experience in Canada (up to 10): 6 months or more in Alberta 10, 6 months or more in another province 6, less than that 0.
- Age (up to 5): 21 to 34 years 5, 35 to 49 years 4, 18 to 20 years 3, 50 years or more 3.
- Family in Alberta (8): a parent, sibling or child aged 18 or older who is a citizen or permanent resident living in Alberta. Grandparents, grandchildren, aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews stopped counting for WEOIs submitted after 29/01/2025.
- Job offer (10): a permanent, full-time offer or job in Alberta. A fixed-term offer meets the stream requirement but does not earn these 10 points.
- Sector and community (up to 11): a community endorsement letter for Rural Renewal, an employer that is a member of a tourism association or of the Alberta Association of Chiefs of Police 6 (only one of these), plus a position in a designated community or outside the Calgary and Edmonton metropolitan regions 5.
- Regulated occupation (10): a licence from an Alberta regulatory body or an Alberta trade certificate or Red Seal recognized under the AIT.
Process, fees, quotas and draws
From the WEOI to the work permit with a letter of support. Amounts in Canadian dollars.
- Stage 1: WEOI through the AAIP portal, $135 (since 07/04/2026), valid for 12 months. It can be edited or withdrawn once every 15 days (rule from 26/05/2026). The offer's wage and hours are mandatory.
- Stage 2: invitation (Notification of Interest) through a stream draw. After the invitation, a nomination application with a $1,500 fee (since 01/04/2025), submitted through the portal with all documents.
- Stage 3: nomination, valid for 6 months. Extension for $150. With the nomination, apply for permanent residence to IRCC, through Express Entry (600 CRS points under the federal rule) or through the paper-based PNP path.
- Letter of support for a work permit (204(c) exemption): $150 to Alberta and $100 to IRCC, to apply for or renew the work permit while the PR application is processed.
- 2026 quota: 6,603 nominations. Alberta Opportunity 3,562, Rural Renewal 1,057, Tourism and Hospitality 156, Dedicated Health Care 518, Express Entry Accelerated Tech 619, Law Enforcement 12 and Priority Sectors 619 (the rest goes to entrepreneurs). In 2025 there were 6,403.
- By 25/08/2026 Alberta had issued 4,560 nominations. Physicians (NOC 31100, 31101 and 31102) and francophone candidates have extra federal allocations outside the quota.
- Recent cutoffs: Alberta Opportunity 58 (14/08/2026), Rural Renewal 51 (11/08/2026), Dedicated Health Care 60 (August 2026), Accelerated Tech 60 (06/08/2026), Law Enforcement 52 (10/07/2026), Priority Sectors from 47 (aviation) to 66 (health care), and Tourism and Hospitality 71 to 73, the most competitive.
- Draws happen frequently (several times a month) and by stream. The WEOI score is the only ranking: there is no lottery or first-come order within the same cutoff.
- Processing: the nomination application takes a few months after the invitation. Expired documents (language test, work permit, job offer) fail the application during the review, not only at submission.
- Nominees must keep the intent to live in Alberta. Changing employers before PR requires notifying AAIP and can cancel the nomination.

Alberta Opportunity and Tourism and Hospitality require you to be working in Alberta. Rural Renewal and health care accept candidates from abroad.
Maintained status stopped being accepted for Rural Renewal on 01/01/2026 and was never accepted for Alberta Opportunity.

Second digit of the NOC. Outside Alberta, Rural Renewal accepts only TEER 0 to 3.
Only the permanent offer earns the 10 points. A fixed-term one meets the stream requirement without the points.
A position outside both metropolitan areas earns 5 points.
Worth 6 points, only one of them. It is also a requirement of the matching stream.
Worth 10 points: a licence from Alberta's regulator or a recognized AIT or Red Seal certificate.
Counts continuous operation with a place of business in Alberta.
A small employer can still support a nominee, with a limit per year of operation.
Only the first option is accepted. The others fail the job offer.
Minimum: the LMIA wage or the lowest published starting wage for the occupation in Alberta (alis.alberta.ca).
Full-time, paid experience in the occupation of the position. Up to 11 points.
Up to 10 points. Internships and co-ops do not count.
The experience must be in the same occupation as the current position.
Since 01/01/2026 the experience must be in a TEER compatible with the position.
A TEER 0 position accepts TEER 0 and 1 experience, TEER 1 accepts 0 to 2, TEER 2 and 3 accept 1 to 4, TEER 4 accepts 2 to 5, TEER 5 only the same occupation.
Tourism and Hospitality requires the experience to be with the same employer as the offer.
Only the 9 occupations on the list qualify for the Dedicated Health Care Pathway.
CPSA, CRNA, CLPNA, ACOT, Physiotherapy Alberta, ACSW or CAP, depending on the profession.
Both lists (occupations and NAICS) are on the official Accelerated Tech Pathway page.
Each sector has its own draws and cutoffs.
The Express Entry paths require an active profile and a CRS of at least 300.

AAIP compares the profile's main occupation with the job offer or the sector.
CELPIP, IELTS General, PTE Core, TEF Canada or TCF Canada.
French counts for a bit less in the grid: NCLC 6 gives 8 points, CLB 6 gives 10.
The points and the stream minimum use the lowest ability.
Worth 3 points. Needs a valid test in both languages.
Up to 12 points. A completed high school diploma is the minimum for every stream.
A post-secondary credential from Alberta earns 10 points, from another province 6.
WES, ICAS, CES, IQAS, ICES or the profession's regulatory body (physicians, pharmacists).
Up to 5 points: 21 to 34 years.
8 points. Only immediate family for WEOIs submitted after 29/01/2025.
Any of these fails every stream.
Funds for the Rural Renewal Stream
In Rural Renewal, applicants already working in Canada do not need to show funds.
Spouse and dependent children, even if they are not coming with you.
Unencumbered balance, no debts. Only for applicants not working in Canada.
The funds table (LICO) changes with the size of the community.
There is no minimum score to submit the WEOI. The cutoff changes with every draw.
